Powell's roles in the action film Top Gun: Maverick (2022) and the romantic comedy Anyone but You (2023) catapulted him to blockbuster stardom. His performance in the former earned him a Golden Globe Award nomination. Further, Powell starred in Edgar Wright's The Running Man (2025), based on the 1987 Stephen King novella of the same name; How to Make a Killing (2026), a remake of the 1949 film Kind Hearts and Coronets; and had his first major voice performance in a feature film as Fox McCloud (aka Star Fox) in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026), a role he personally sought Nintendo for.
